Sixty-One (61) children, comprising three year-groups, have successfully graduated from our Elementary School with remarkable results. All of them have been placed in Secondary Schools and are pursuing various courses as a foundation for their future professions. Our first batch of pupils graduated from SHS in September 2025 and enter tertiary institutions in 2026.
Volunteers
Throughout the year, St. Nicholas warmly welcomes volunteers from both Ghana and abroad. These volunteers play a vital role in the life of the school by supporting classroom instruction, mentoring students, and assisting with extra-curricular activities. Their presence brings diversity, energy, and valuable knowledge to the learning environment, and their contributions greatly enhance the educational experience of our students.
Our Work
Support for student well-being
At our school, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom, as such, we support the overall well-being of our children with dedicated guidance and counselling services. Through the care of our Social Worker, our children receive emotional and psychological support to help them cope with personal challenges and build confidence. This holistic approach ensures a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
School Transportation Programme
To make education more accessible and ensure the safety of our children, we provide a reliable school bus service for both children and staff. The bus runs once each morning to bring everyone to school and makes two trips in the afternoon to take them home. This program is especially helpful for our youngest students and those who live farther away, easing the burden of transportation for many families. By offering this service, we create a safer, more convenient way for our students to attend school every day.
Learning Support Programme
To create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, we provide our children with essential school supplies, including uniforms, shoes, bags, books, stationery, and other learning materials. These items are generously donated by our valued donors and sponsors, and they play a vital role in making education more accessible for our children. By supplying these necessities, we not only make learning easier and more comfortable but also help relieve the financial burden on parents, many of whom struggle to afford basic educational needs for their children.
Staff Capacity Building
We believe that the quality of education our students receive is directly linked to the growth and development of our staff. To ensure our teachers and support staff are well-equipped to deliver the best possible education and care, we regularly invest in capacity-building initiatives. These include workshops, training sessions, and professional development programs focused on modern teaching methods, child development, and effective classroom management. By continuously developing our team's skills and knowledge, we create a more dynamic, effective, and nurturing learning environment for our students.
Community Initiatives
Recognised as a community-based organisation, St Nicholas Preparatory School plays an active role in community development initiatives. For five years, the school served as an implementing partner for the “Family Strengthening and Alternative Care” project led by SOS Children’s Villages in Tema. This initiative aimed to enhance families' financial independence, enabling them to provide better care for their children. Through this program, 60% of families with children in our school received both financial aid and material support to start or expand small businesses, significantly improving their livelihoods.
Furthermore, St Nicholas Preparatory School partnered with Tema International School (TIS) pupils on the CAS project, which involved donating solar lamps and power banks to our school. These items were distributed to families in Tema New Town to provide backup lighting solutions during frequent national power outages.
